Ruffa Gutierrez, nagpaliwanag kay Janina San Miguel
March 15, 2008
IN fairness to Ruffa Gutierrez, we are publishing her reaction to an item we wrote here in Tattle regarding what we termed as unfair comment niya sa pagkapanalo ni Bb. Pilipinas-World Janina San Miguel dahil ’di nito nasagot in good English ang tanong ng isang judge nu’ng pageant night.
Heto ang text message ni Ruffa sa amin: “Hi, I just got home from shooting a new TVC and read ur column. I believe there’s a big misunderstanding here.
“I never said walang karapatang manalo ang reigning Bb. Pilipinas-World dahil hindi maayos ang kasagutan niya. I have no idea where u heard that, but wala akong karapatan sabihin na ’di karapat-dapat manalo ang ilalaban natin sa Ms. World ’coz I didn’t even get to watch Bb. Pilipinas (pageant) this year.
“I was asked by Mario Dumaual (entertainment head, TV Patrol World) if I agree that contestants should only be judged on beauty and not intelligence.
“I said that beauty comes from within. Physical or inner beauty are essential but it is also impt. 2 be witty, confident, well-versed, knew about current events.
“Then he (Mario) talked about her mali-maling English and how people think she’s not deserving to win the title.
“At wala pong masama sa sinabi kong mag-aral 2 improve self.
As a matter of fact, I’m currently a student at the School of Fashion and the Arts taking up a crash course in fashion merchandising and product development.
“The other day, I joined 30 students from the University of the Philippines on a field trip to Josie Natori’s factory. Napakarami ko pong natutunan sa 2 oras ko nandu’n.
“Please, huwag n’yo kaming gawan ng intriga. Nakakahiya sa tao. I havn’t even had the chance to meet her.”
Three hours later, we received from Ruffa this addendum (through text uli) to her previous message: “Just spoke to Janina through Tito Ricky (Lo of Philippine Star) n wished her the best of luck. I cleared up with her what I have supposedly said.
“I never want to be condescending, Tita. Gosh, kawawa naman si Janina. Napakabait niya sa akin at panay po ang sagot (obviously sa sinasabi ni Ruffa).
“We should help her and not put her down.
“I’m in Hong Kong now for the grand opening of Louis Vuitton house with editor of Tatler Anton San Diego and creative director of Preview magazine, Vince Uy.”
