Lea Salonga’s condition for new movie: Only with Aga Muhlach

May 12, 2008

A WORLD-class performer and a global star. This in a nutshell is Lea Salonga. She celebrates her 30th year in show business with a concert musical simply titled “Lea, My Life…On Stage”  to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center  Plenary Hall on May 23 and 24 at 8 p.m.

Lea who admits she has a wicked sense of humor and who never indulges in self-pity says it will be a musical journey where every song she will sing has some connection to her life. “It is a look back at the past with fondness as well as a peak at the present and future. Each song delivers a punchline. I am excited and feel lucky putting my personal life on public,” she says.

The presence of her brother Gerard, an award-winning musical director makes the concert a unique presentation.

“I am very proud that my brother Gerard has been witness to all the highlights of my musical career. We made sacrifices for one another and he has seen through my eyes both my personal and professional view. Since we were children, music has always been a strong force in our lives,” she says.

Presented by Enfakid and produced by entertainment and events company, Ambient Events, the concert will delve into the different chapters of Lea’s life, with images straight from the past to supplement a magnificent live performance accompanied by a full orchestra featuring songs from her various performances and records.

A must in the repertoire is the Miss Saigon medley which had three revisions. It is from this West End and Broadway hit musical which earned Lea global acceptance and a Laurence Olivier award for best actress in a musical in 1990 as well as the Tony, Dramadesk, Outer Critics Circle and Theater World Awards in 1991.

There is no sign of slowing down for Lea who doesn’t mind having a second child in 2010.

The long performances of Cinderella  (which is booked for months) and her other commitments in the United States is the only priority she is focusing on. Another baby can wait, she says and her husband understands.

It has been a long time since Lea appeared in a full-length movie. Would she mind doing another flick?

“I don’t mind and if I could squeeze it, why not? But only with Aga (Muhlach),” she remarked with a big smile.

ABOUT GERARD
