Sharon Cuneta warns Viva Films

May 20, 2008

SHARON Cuneta requested that the name of Gabby Concepcion not be brought up during the presscon for “Caregiver” but this was not followed as it was her own co-star, Boots Anson Roa, playing her mother-in-law in the movie, who mentioned Gabby. According to Boots, when she was doing “P.S. I Love You” in 1982 (the second movie of the Sharon-Gabby love team after “Dear Heart”), the then two young stars were so in love  and approached her to ask  if she could be one of their “ninangs” in case they’ll walk down the aisle. The wedding did take place two years later.

“But by the time, I’ve already moved to the States with my family kaya hindi natuloy ang pagiging ninang ko sa kanila,” says Boots.

Sharon butts in at this point. “Buti na nga lang at hindi kayo natuloy na magninang sa amin, Tita Boots. Kasi wala namang pinatunguhan ang naging kasal namin ni Gabby.”

Boots paid tribute to Sharon’s generosity which is often concealed from the public since she prefers it  done secretly rather than flaunting it. Boots revealed that as current head of Mowelfund, she has instituted a livelihood program for the small people in the industry who became jobless after local movie production became sparse. When Sharon learned that they were making some stuff (we’re not exactly sure what this is) to augment their income, she quickly ordered  several items to be given away for Christmas and the Mowelfund workers were very happy that the Megastar ordered   from them.

“Marami talagang natutulungan si Sharon, hindi lang niya pinaaalam na gaya ng ibang stars diyan na kapag nagpunta sa isang orphanage kung birthday nila, may kasama pang TV crew at mga reporter para mai-broadcast sa ibang tao,” says one writer.

Meantime, what can Sharon say about Viva Films’ plan to do a remake of “Dear Heart” (originally produced by Sining Silangan and directed by Danny Zialcita) starring Robin Padilla’s daughter Queenie.

“Totoo ba yan?” she says, incredulous. “I didn’t know that. Nobody from Viva has informed me. Viva would break my heart talaga if they’ll do that. Kung mayroon mang dapat mag-remake noon, it would be my daughter, si KC. Pero hindi na puwede, kasi she’s 23 now and I was only 15 years old when I did ‘Dear Heart’. I have nothing against Queenie. My God, she’s a very nice and beautiful girl at alam naman ninyong  naging special friends din kami ni Robin. But sad to say, you know how sacred and very personal ‘Dear Heart’ is for me. I hope huwag na lang nilang ituloy.”
