Kim Chiu perfect for My Girl
May 24, 2008
PBB TEENS first big winner Kim Chiu looked so cute in her braided hair at the launching of her new series, the Pinoy version of the Koreanovela “My Girl” that starts airing tomorrow night on ABS-CBN, replacing “Maligno.” The pilot episode was shown to the press and her oriental features make her perfectly suited for the role of Jasmine, which was also her name in her first teleserye with partner Gerald Anderson, “Sana Maulit Muli,” a hit in various Asian countries.
Jasmine is a kooky and cheerful girl whose fave expression is “tira-tira.” She maybe poor but is street smart and strong-willed to survive in a tough world. Her bum of a father (Lito Pimentel) is a burden to her but she continues to love him.
Julian (Gerald Anderson) comes from a rich family. His parents died when he was still a little boy and he was raised by his grandpa (Ronaldo Valdez) who assigns him to be the president of their business, a chain of plush hotels. How the two future lovers, who are poles apart in status in life, meet and fall in love is something that will send their fans swooning in so many “kilig” scenes.
Supporting them are Enchong Dee as Nico, Julian’s party-loving best friend; Niña Jose as Anika, the beauty queen girlfriend of Julian who returns from the States; Alex Gonzaga as Christine, Jasmine’s wacky confidante; newcomer David Chua as Jeffrey, Christine’s dorky twin brother’ and Regine Angeles (Be Bench winner) as Shiela, Julian’s trustworthy executive assistant.
Didn’t Kim have any difficulty in playing the role of Jasmine? “No, as I can relate to her,” she says. “Like her, galing din ako sa hirap and I care very much for my family. We’re also both go-getters at masayahin ang outlook sa buhay. Kung nagustuhan ng viewers ang ‘Sana Maulit Muli’ namin ni Gerald, I’m sure they’ll enjoy watching ‘My Girl’ even more dahil nakakaaliw talaga ang bawat episode nito.”
