De La Hoya-Pacquiao Hype Begins: Manny Predicts a Brutal Beating, Oscar Vows Revenge For Mexico

August 28, 2008

Moments ago, it was formerly announced that former six-division champion Oscar De La Hoya (39-5, 30KOs) will be facing WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao (47-3, 35KOs) on December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Pacquiao will make a twelve-pound jump to the agreed upon fight-weight of 147-pounds. The two sides have agreed to use eight-ounce gloves. The event will be carried by HBO pay-per-view.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said this was the one fight that had people talking when they were sizing up all of the opponents.

“Many opponents have been mentioned. There was only one fight that had people talking. Everyone has an opinion one way or another about this matchup. This fight will transcend the sport. This fight will be a fight between two superstars,” Schaefer said. “Two fighters who have captured the imagination of the people. The two most popular fighters in the world. Both guys go forward and don’t know how to go back.”

‘All-out peace’ impossible with MILF around – Erap

August 28, 2008

With continued talk from Malacañang of an “all-out peace” in Mindanao while the military pursues the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)’s commanders who led their fighters in attacking civilians in Mindanao provinces, killing them, including children, former President Joseph Estrada in a radio interview yesterday stood firm on his position that eradicating the separatists’ activity is the only solution to peace in Mindanao.

At the same time, the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) finally condemned the recent spate of

rebel Muslim attacks on civilians in Mindanao. But it was evident that despite the condemnation, the OIC did not condemn the MILF but its alleged “wayward elements.”

Richard Gutierrez, KC Concepcion kumita ng P14M sa first day

August 28, 2008

For The First Time nina KC Concepcion at Richard Gutierrez.

August 28, 2008

Richard Gutierrez, KC Concepcion appeal to all classes, ages

August 28, 2008

THE pairing of Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion in “For the First Time” evokes fond memories of Philippine movies’ enduring loveteams. Think of Carmen Rosales and Rogelio de la Rosa, Tita Duran and Pancho Magalona, Gloria Romero and Luis Gonzales, Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa of the ‘40s and ‘50s. Of Susan Roces and Eddie Gutierrez (and later Fernando Poe Jr.), Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III, Vilma Santos and Edgar Mortiz (and later Christopher de Leon), Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, Maricel Soriano and William Martinez of the ‘60s and later decades.

What a beautiful and wholesome tandem Richard and KC make, a welcome refreshing sight in an otherwise bleak scenery. They blend without trying to. KC says, “We have many things in common. We are both adventurous, unafraid to try new things. We are both aggressive and passionate, not stopping unless we reach our goals.” Richard agrees, adding, “I want to thank KC for making me understand myself more.”
