John Lloyd Cruz denies squealing on Bea Alonzo - Jake Cuenca affair

THE grand presscon for “I Love Betty La Fea” was held at ABS-CBN’s 11th floor, where they built an entire set housing the Ecomoda office of Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz and Ruffa Gutierrez. Upon the invitation of their corporate communication exec Bong Osorio, we took a tour of their offices before the presscon started and it’s really impressively designed, approximating the Mode Magazine in “Ugly Betty” of America Ferrera, Eric Mabius and Vanessa Williams (the counterparts of Bea etc. in the Hollywood version). It reportedly cost P40 million to build that set, plus the rights to the original Colombian version.

It would have been nice if Bea came in her Betty getup so the press people could’ve seen her up close as John Lloyd’s ugly secretary. What’s her first reaction when she saw herself in the mirror made up as Betty La Fea? “I was overwhelmed kaya matagal na the only thing I did is to look at myself in the mirror over and over again. Tapos, sabi ko sa reflection ko, ‘Betty, you are just bettyful!’ This is really a new challenge for me kasi dati, lagi akong nagpapaiyak sa drama. This time, magpapatawa naman ako.”

How did she feel when she learned John Lloyd will be playing Armando? “I was so happy na tinanggap niya ang role kasi, sa totoo lang, wala akong maisip na ibang aktor na babagay roon at mas magaling sa kanya. He’s just perfect as Armando.”

Lloydie said he doesn’t mind playing support to her since she plays the title role. How does she feel about this? “Well, ako rin naman, sakaling kailanganin akong sumuporta sa kanya in a show na siya ang title role, I wouldn’t mind. Ang tagal na ng pinagsamahan namin and we’ve been supporting each other all these years.”

How would she explain the public support their love team gets when they’re not really on in real life? Lloydie is on with Liz Uy for two years now while she’s said to be on with Jake Cuenca. “Siguro dahil naging honest kami sa kanila ever since. Hindi namin pinaniwala ang mga tao na in love kami sa isa’t isa para lang mag-click ang aming love team. About Jake, si Lloydie lang naman ang nagbuking at nagkakalat niyan, e.”

“Wala akong kinakalat,” says Lloydie in defense. “All I said was noong nasa taping kami at nakita niya si Jake sa TV, sabi niya, ‘Ang guwapo ni Jake’. Hindi naman niya maikakaila yun dahil narinig ko at nakita ng two eyes ko ang reaksiyon niya, kaya hindi ako basta gumagawa ng kuwento.”

Bea might deny it but a lot of ABS-CBN people say she and Jake really go out on dates regularly. How does Lloydie feel about this? “As long as masaya sila together, that’s fine with me. Siyempre, long time friend ko si Bea and I also want her to be happy.”
