“I LOVE BETTY LA FEA,” Bettyful ba talaga?

September 10, 2008

THE much-waited teleserye of Kapamilya “I love Betty” finally premiered last Monday.

The pilot episode took the viewers to the life of Betty La Fea from birth to her first job hunt. That was a nice start as viewers don’t need to get through the pain of seeing Betty being bullied when she was a kid. That’s passé already.

So let’s fast forward to the story of the teleserye that originated from Colombia.

Bea Alonzo as Betty is visually charming and endearing as her original counterpart. And she is paired by another equally loveable character Nicolas Mora as portrayed by Vhong Navarro. Good pair as best friends, indeed.

Being ugly, Betty’s life has not been a bed of roses since her mother delivered her to this cruel world. As life is truly unfair, Betty could not find a job even for a secretarial position even with her outstanding academic achievements.

But her confidence has been shaped up by the unconditional love and support of her parents played by Ronaldo Valdes and Ai-ai de las Alas. And confident as she is, Betty claimed that she would work in the glossy world of advertising. And her target is one of the country’s best ad agencies ” Eco Moda Manila. By hook or by crook, she wants to be working with Armando Solis (John Lloyd Cruz). Armando serves as her inspiration and dreamboat. But, of course, there will be a “bangu-ngot” in her dream who happens to be Daniella Valencia (Ruffa Gutierrez).

Ruffa’s role as gorgeous, fabulous and ambitious former top model Daniella fits her to a T. And if she doesn’t overact her role she will be a knockout in this teleserye. John Lloyd as the president of the country’s top ad agency, on the other hand, lacks gloss and savvy ” unbelievable of him as an advertising executive. He seems to be too young for the role.

Eco Moda has failed to present the visual look of the real glamorous and snooty world of advertising. In the victory party alone, the “extras” are obviously “extras.” Obviously, people in the advertising would not connect to the characters they see inside the Eco Moda. The only character that is “bagay” in the ad agency is Ruffa for obvious reasons.

Well, lest, be accused of being too critical of the teleserye, I will reserve my comments on the show in the succeeding issues. Sabi nga nila, maaga pa para husgahan sina Betty, Armando, Nicolas at Daniella. Kilalanin muna natin sila nang husto.

ano ba yan! why do we stoop to this level? aside from the fact that most teleseryes we have are so cliche’, it’s the same old story, over and over again…lalo pa natin gagasgasin itong betty la fea! come on, don’t we have any originality?
why don’t the so called “brilliant minds” of the showbiz industry come up with something that is actually worth watching. you people are well paid to give us quality television, so please get to it.

by the by, I have not seen a single episode of this betty la fea, i’m that confident na it’s not worth my time. i’m pretty sure bea’s acting will fall short, ruffa’s naman will be exaggerated and c john lloyd, we’ll i don’t really care how he acts, he’s cute, but not that cute to make me watch.

Got something to say?
