Joke: Ang Bulag

October 29, 2008

Money, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya

October 29, 2008

Popular boxing trainer Angelo Dundee predicted that Manny Pacquiao has no chance at all of winning against the much superior Oscar de la Hoya in their forthcoming boxing match to be staged at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 6m 2008. He said that dela Hoya has no problem with shorter and smaller boxers as he has fought and sparred with so many smaller boxers in the past.

Boxing fans from all over the world including a good number of Pacquiao fans from the Philippines, share Angelo Dundee’s prediction. They believe that because of dela Hoya’s overall physical superiority, he will emerge as the sure winner. Oscar dela Hoya, as statistics would show, has a marked advantage in height, weight and reach while Pacquaio is known for his fast hand and foot movements.

Although Pacquiao is relatively younger than dela Hoya, boxing experts say that it will not compensate for dela Hoya’s built and other physical assets. Likewise dela Hoya is more experienced both as an amateur and as a professional boxer. He was a gold medalist in boxing representing the United States in the Olympic Games.

DILG lawyer: No basis to include Puno in Senate euro probe

October 29, 2008

The Senate committee on foreign relations, headed by Sen. Miriam Santiago, has no basis to call for the investigation of Department of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Ronaldo Puno for approving the official travel of eight police officers to Russia as he did not violate any Palace directive covering the official overseas trips of civil servants, DILG legal service chief Emeterio Moreno Jr. said yesterday.

He pointed to Executive Order 459 providing the rules for official travels of all government officials and employees, stressing that President Arroyo had issued it precisely to delegate to Cabinet secretaries, such as Puno and their equivalent government executives the authority to approve such trips of the officers and staff in their respective departments or agencies.

Even if Administrative Order No. 103, which bans certain types of foreign travels, remains in force as so provided in EO 459, Moreno said the DILG chief did not violate this austerity measure in allowing the police delegates to attend the recent General Assembly meeting of the International Criminal Police Organization in Moscow, since the annual Interpol gathering falls under one of two exemptions of AO 103.

Sen. Roxas demands Gen. Dela Paz presence in Senate probe

October 29, 2008

LIBERAL Party President Senator Mar Roxas yesterday demanded that retired PNP comptroller Deputy Director General Eliseo dela Paz should be forced to testify before the next Senate hearing on the “euro general” issue, saying the public demands full answers to questions left unanswered by the PNP investigation into the issue.

Roxas, acting chair of the Senate foreign relations committee investigating the issue, said he is filing a bill that will grant Congress full oversight powers over the use of military and police intelligence funds similar to the system in the U.S. Congress.

He said only Dela Paz can answer questions that remain hanging despite the PNP chief’s directive that the former PNP comptroller and other PNP officers be charged criminally and administratively over the controversy.

“As long as Dela Paz will not present himself to the Senate Committee, then there will always be questions that remain unanswered. His testimony will be crucial to determine the solutions to the problems posed by this case. Likewise, his testimony will have a direct bearing on the credibility that the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will give to the report,” the Liberal Party president said.
