Ryan, Juday still ironing out wedding details

October 25, 2008

RYAN Agoncillo says he feels pressure recreating the problem son role of the late Ace Vergel in the TV remake of Carlo J. Caparas’ “Pieta” on ABS-CBN that starts airing this Monday after “Wowo wee,” replacing “Ligaw na Bulaklak.”

“Siyempre, premyadong actor si Ace Vergel at talagang tumatak sa tao ang portrayal niya as Rigor in ‘Pieta,’ kaya I’m sure hindi maiiwasan ang comparison,” he says. “The role of Cherie Gil’s salbaheng anak is a complete departure from my goody-goody roles in my movies and TV shows with Judy Ann. The script was sent to me when I was still taping ‘Fear Factor’ in Argentina and when I read it, that’s when I realized kung gaano kabigat ito.

I had to ask ABS management: Are you sure in your decision na ako ang gaganap dito? I know it’s a big responsibility, so when I got home, I even told their creative team na okay lang na palitan nila ako. But they insisted ako’ng choice nila kaya habang palapit ang taping namin, mas lalo namang tumindi ang nerbiyos at tension ko. My prayer is manalo sana sila sa pagsugal nila sa akin dito.”

How did he prepare for his difficult role? “I took a workshop with Direk Laurice Guillen. She told me to let go and loosen up to be believable. Si Rigor kasi, may baltik sa ulo. He does what he wants to do and he doesn’t care about the consequences or who’d get hurt, which is the opposite of me in real life kasi pinag-iisipan ko munang mabuti anuman ang gagawin ko. Wala akong paghuhugutan kay Rigor in my own life.

Kaaway niya ang ina niya, e ako, I admit may pagka-mama’s boy ako, e. Kaya noong una, kapag sinasagot ko ng pabalang si Cherie Gil, medyo dyahe pa ako kasi I won’t do it to my own mom. So I always remind myself, this is just a role. Tinanggap ko nang si Rigor, talagang salbahe. For the action scenes naman, it helped na matagal na akong nagta-taekwondo at si-nuportahan ako rito ng lahat ng mga kasamahan ko roon who even attended the presscon.”

Did he ask Juday, a much awarded actress, for advice? “Oh yes. She’s very supportive. I told her marami kaming kissing scenes ng leading lady ko, Krista Ranillo, and okay lang sa kanya kasi napagdaanan naman niya ‘yun. She even visits the set to give moral support. One time naman, after a very hard scene, I texted her and told her na talagang bawat centavo ng kinikita ko sa teleseryeng ito, talagang pinaghihirapan ko nang husto.”

About the recent issue of Juday with Alfie Lorenzo, Ryan said he’s not a “sulsoltant” to his fiancee. “We respect Tito Alfie very much. 20 years na sila together, bago pa ko dumating, so labas ako diyan. Judy Ann has a mind of her own, she can make decisions for herself. Basta I’m glad na nagkaayos din agad sila.”

How about their much anticipated wedding? “We’re talking about it now. Inaayos na namin, but we cannot give any details yet. Hopefully, before 2008 is over, maayos na naman ang lahat ng detalye.”

Isn’t he annoyed when folks keep on asking him about Juday and their wedding? “Well, mainis man ako, let’s face it, I’m engaged to a big movie star. Love is a decision and when I decided to love her, kasama na ‘yun sa minahal ko sa kanya, all the trappings of stardom and popularity. Basta ang promise ko, in the future, we will face everything together kung anuman ang mga dapat naming harapin as husband and wife.”

In all fairness to Juday, she’s always willing to make Ryan shine. She says that between the of them, Ryan is now more sikat as he has three shows no less: “Pieta,” “Fear Factor” on ABS and “Talentadong Pinoy” on TV 5. “Ako, wala pang show na umeere kaya I just help him to promote his own shows,” she adds.
