Sen. Migs Zubiri is new Senate Majority Leader

MANILA, Philippines - Following a change in the Senate leadership, newly-installed Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Monday afternoon named Juan Miguel Zubiri as Senate Majority Leader.

This, after Senators Francis Pangilinan and Aquilino Pimentel Jr resigned their posts as Majority and Minority Leaders, respectively, shortly after Sen. Manuel Villar Jr tendered his resignation upon learning he no longer had the support of his colleagues.

Zubiri, while admitting that he was caught off guard by his appointment as Majority Leader, accepted the appointment.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano had also tendered his resignation as head of the powerful Blue Ribbon Committee. The Blue Ribbon committee is now handling high-profile cases such as the P728-million fertilizer fund cam and the “euro generals” mess.
