Luis Manzano never nagselos kay Piolo Pascual

January 29, 2009

Paano naayos?

“’Yun nga, pumunta siya sa bahay ko na umuulan,” pagbibiro ni Luis. “No, we just had to talk. Siguro ’yung initiative lang to have a good and decent conversation.”

Hatton-Pacquiao bout set for May 2

January 29, 2009

The month-long saga of the Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao deal is finally over.

The much-anticipated fight, pitting junior welterweight champ Hatton and pound-for-pound king Pacquiao, is signed, sealed and delivered, promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy announced Wednesday.

They’ll fight May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be on pay-per-view, but the promoters have not decided whether they will accept an offer from HBO or rival Showtime to produce and distribute the pay-per-view telecast. If they accept the Showtime offer, sister network CBS will have some involvement in the marketing and promotion of the bout, according to Top Rank’s Bob Arum.

Top Rank and Golden Boy thought they had a deal for the fight weeks ago until Pacquiao insisted on a better percentage of the revenue. After back and forth, Pacquiao missed a deadline to sign and the fight was called off. That resulted in a frenetic few days spent trying to revive the deal.

Erap, Cory, Ramos can run in 2010 polls — Maceda

January 29, 2009

Former Presidents Joseph Estrada, Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos are legally able to run for president in 2010 if they want to, former Sen. Ernesto Maceda yesterday said.

The former lawmaker, citing a legal team of former Supreme Court justices, stressed “the Constitution does not prohibit former presidents from election,” a finding which was affirmed by another panel comprising of former chief justices.

Maceda said 1987 Constitution’s term limit does not apply to them, adding the constitutional prohibition was only to keep the incumbent president from “influencing the election.”

Maceda, who was with Estrada’s party during his two-day sortie in Isabela province, claimed that the former chief executive had the legal basis to run again for the top office in the country.

Palparan to worsen GMA’s rights record, Palace warned

January 29, 2009

Reactivating retired Army Gen. Jovito Palparan’s career and have him lead a drug enforcement agency merely create the impression that the Arroyo administration is not serious in its pledge to improve its human rights record.

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. yesterday echoed the concerns recently raised by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) over the possibility of rights violations of suspected drug users and pushers, citing the numerous charges against Palparan on alleged abuse of authority.

Palparan’s assumption to the top post of either the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) or the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), as indicated by the Palace, could only prove to be a liability to the administration as far as advancing its anti-illegal drug campaign is concerned.

Pimentel rejected Malacañang’s justification that giving him this role will serve as some kind of a scare tactics against drug traffickers and pushers.

Richard and KC’s last movie together?

January 29, 2009

EMERGING movie icons Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion are now much comfortable doing their second movie outing, and probably their last, “When I Met U” for Regal Entertainment and GMA Films.

The location for the movie may have helped them feel so at ease, and perhaps so in love. Their individual traits are so compatible that their chemistry is so strong.

KC loves challenges. She delivers 100% of what is expected from her. A very disciplined young lady who was trained by her college life spent alone in Paris. No wonder UNICEF tapped her to be an ambassador of goodwill.

KC’s interests in life are far from the ordinary. Did you know that when they were in Coron, Palawan during the shoot, she adopted a baby sea turtle whom she took care of until they’ve finished shooting? Of course, her baby was left in the ocean where it belongs.

Judy Ann Santos, Ryan tying knot this year

January 29, 2009

RYAN Agoncillo says that he and fiancee Judy Ann Santos are definitely tying the knot this year. “I just want to make it clear na you asked me about it, huh,” says Ryan. “Hindi sa’kin nagsimula kasi may nagsasabi na ayan na naman, puro wedding na lang nila. We’re now househunting and hopefully, within the week, we can seal the deal sa napili naming bahay in the south that has three bedrooms and a den,” he says. “We’re not sure yet about the date but we both want our wedding to be simple, more intimate. No details yet except for Sharon Cuneta being the matron of honor and my own brother Dondi as best man.

“We have only two ninongs and two ninangs, so hindi siya showbiz na wedding na maraming sponsors. We want to have it in a church talaga, but hindi pa sure which one. There will be no TV coverage, so walang selling of TV rights. Kung puwede, wala ring TV crew. Hindi sila banned, but we’ll request them to help us make the wedding solemn and personal. I hope they’ll respect our decision.
