Sarah Geronimo talks about Charice, John Lloyd and the Katrina-Hayden sex scandal

WRITERS can’t find anything controversial in the super wholesome Sarah Geronimo so they keep on devising ways to make her more intriguing, like saying that Charice Pempengco said she’s only popular in the Philippines, unlike her (Charice) who’s well known internationally. And what can she say that she’s the cause of the break up of John Lloyd Cruz and Liz Uy. She’s even asked what she thinks of the Katrina-Hayden video scandal.

“Kailangan ba may ganyang intriga?” says Sarah. “I’m not even sure kung sinabi nga talaga yan ni Charice and even if she did, it’s true naman. Wala naman siyang makakatapat. Nag-iisa lang si Charice. Actually, kung anuman ‘yung success na narating niya, inspiration ‘yun para sa aming lahat na singers dito kasi sigurado namang all local artists dream to be like Charice na nakilala sa buong mundo.”

Would she like to work with Charice? “Of course, pero hindi ko kaya ‘yung grabe niyang pagkanta na ang tataas lahat. Now that I’m 20, I’ve figured out kung ano talaga ang singing style ko at enjoy ako kantahin. Mas gusto ko ‘yung nakakasayaw ako while singing at hindi ‘yung lahat, puro birit. Gusto ko, pasundut-sundot na lang yung pagbirit.”

So she accepts that Charice is better than her? “Yes. Lagi namang may mas magaling sa iyo and you should be humble enough to accept that. But I’m happy with what I have. You can’t have everything naman.”

As a Belo endorser, what does she think of the Katrina-Hayden scandal? “It affects our industry and our country kasi nga kumalat sa Internet. The lesson siguro is okay, nagkamali ka, pero dapat, hindi na ulitin. I think this is the Lord’s punishment for being immoral. Na paulit-ulit ginagawa ‘yun sa closed doors thinking walang makakaalam. E, ayan lumabas, na-expose na. So lesson din ‘yun, tama na, itigil na ‘yan. As for Dr. Vicki Belo, I’m sure she’ll reco-ver from all these.”

Has she seen the videos? “No, at wala akong balak kahit sobrang curious ako. Sabi nga ni Katrina, tama na kasi para siyang binababoy nang paulit-ulit tuwing may nanonood noon. Babae rin ako and I side with her.”

Why is she being blamed for the John Lloyd-Liz Uy breakup? “Siguro I can’t blame people kasi nagkasama kami sa dalawang movies. Pero wala naman talaga akong kinalaman diyan. Ni hindi naman nanliligaw si John Lloyd sa akin. Whatever they’re going through right now, let’s just respect that. Sila lang ang puwedeng mag-explain and since they both don’t want to talk, respetuhin na lang natin.”

What about Mark Herras who did a show with her in Camsur? Is it true he can’t even touch first base as her parents are guarding her so tightly? “Ano ‘yung first base? Walang ganun. Ni wala na nga kaming communication after that show. Hindi siya nagte-text at hindi rin siya nanliligaw.”

How about Rayver Cruz? “We’re friends. Ganun lang. Hindi rin nanliligaw.”

Is it true she turned down the movie with Rayver? “No. Wala lang time talaga kasi may concert tour ako up to September. Mahirap isingit gumawa ng movie.”

Sarah had a successful “The Next One” U.S. concert tour. It was originally staged at the Big Dome and this is now available on DVD with John Lloyd, Billy Crawford, Jed Madela, Shaina Magdayao, Maja Salvador and Rayver as her special guests. This will also be shown in La Salle Lipa on June 12, San Fernando Pampanga on June 20, Dagupan City on June 26, Cagayan de Oro on July 3, Bacolod City on July 17, Cebu City on July 31, Tagum City on August 7, Iloilo City on August 21, Tacloban on August 28, Naga on September 11 and Davao on September 20.
