BF ni Bangs Garcia nilait ni Roxanne Guinoo

July 25, 2009

Erap asks Gloria: Are we better off today?

July 25, 2009

Former President Joseph Estrada posed yesterday to President Arroyo, who deposed him in 2001, the bottomline question: “Are we better off today than in 2000?”

Mrs. Arroyo stole the presidency from Estrada in 2001 through a military mutiny that was supported by Catholic bishops, Makati businessmen and the social elite which was then collectively called the civil society.

The Supreme Court, then headed by Chief Justice Hilario Davide, upheld the takeover, stating that Estrada had relinquished his post based on flimsy evidence. Estrada, however, never admitted to have resigned the presidency.

Estrada also asked the question to members of the Rotary Clubs of Baguio City last night as keynote speaker.

Estrada was in Baguio Friday as part of his Lakbay Pasasalamat (Tour of Thanks) visit to different regions of the country.

Ex-Cabinet men want proof Gloria out June 30, 2010

July 25, 2009

A group of former public officials mostly of Cabinet rank laid down a four-point agenda starting with President Arroyo declaring that she will relinquish “all power” at noon of June 30 next year that it said should be included in her final State of the Nation Address (Sona) tomorrow to remove suspicions that she plans to subvert next year’s presidential elections.

The Former Senior Government Officials (FSGO) said in a statement, it calls as “counter-Sona,” that Filipinos must expect Mrs. Arroyo to declare on or before the day she addresses Congress:

· That she will relinquish all power at noon of June 30, 2010, and thus allow the peaceful and orderly transfer of power to her duly-elected successor;

· That she will not allow any effort to alter, amend or re-write the Constitution before June 30, 2010, nor would she support any effort to prepare for a Constituent Assembly, and would leave it to the next leadership in both the executive and legislative branches of government to call for an elected Constitutional Convention to amend the charter;

· That she will ensure that all support mechanisms will be undertaken to ensure clean, honest, free and orderly elections on May 10, 2010, and will not in any way use the powers and resources of her incumbent office to influence or alter the people’s free and sovereign choice of their next leaders, nor in any way cause the failure of said electoral exercise;

· And that she will not entertain any suggestions or attempts to impose emergency rule or martial law, and would prosecute all public officials who suggest the same in public statements calling for a revolutionary or transition government, all of which are anathema to democratic order.

The group said failure of Mrs. Arroyo to forthrightly declare all these should be taken by the Filipino people as clear intent to thwart the elections scheduled next year.

It called on Filipinos “to be prepared to do anything and everything to thwart all plans and attempts to prolong the rule of the present administration”.

“We call on all sectors of the population, whatever their calling, wherever they are in these islands, to be prepared to resist,” the statement read.

The group stated that its members have served the people in various capacities as public officials appointed by several Presidents of the Republic, from Diosdado Macapagal, Mrs. Arroyo’s father, to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“Many of us have participated in the preparation of the Sona of several presidents,” it added.

More than any report of achievement or promise of legacy, what the Filipino people want to hear from her, at this time, are firm declarations that would finally disprove their greatest fears – that democracy is once more at peril, and that the scheduled elections of May 2010 shall be either a sham or a failure, the group said.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, the other day said “nobody should miss” Mrs. Arroyo’s Sona, adding that it will be her opportunity not only to “recount the very long list of achievements on her watch, but also to commend her unfinished legacy to her successor in office.”

“Our people have in the past demonstrated their capacity to remove a dictator from power peacefully. This time, they will move to prevent any attempt to thwart our democratic rights,” according to the statement.

It said the people will not wait for another dictator to seize power by whatever subterfuge.

The group said public opinion surveys indicated the people wanted next year’s elections to proceed and succeed in electing a new set of leaders.

“The second quarter survey of the Social Weather Stations for the current year reinforces previous public opinion research on the non-acceptability of charter change. Seven out of every ten adult Filipinos nationwide oppose changing the Constitution to allow her continued rule beyond June 30, 2010. In the National Capital Region, fully 83 percent oppose it,” it added.

“We have thwarted the enemies of democracy before. We should be prepared to do it again,” it added.

Angelica Panganiban returns Piolo Pascual’s check

July 20, 2009

PIOLO Pascual is complaining about his financial headaches in producing the twin bill “Manila,” but looks like he’s not daunted to continue producing films as he’s now bankrolling Eugene Domingo’s launching flick “Kimmy Dora, Kambal sa Kiyeme,” then he also intends to produce a local version of “Ocean’s 11″ with an all male cast that includes him in the George Clooney role, plus John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano, Vhong Navarro and Billy Crawford. Of course, we won’t be surprised if he’d also include his best friends and church mates Sam Milby, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista and Erik Santos.

In “Manila,” Piolo has plenty of co-stars like Rosanna Roces, William Martinez, Angelica Panganiban, Alex de Rossi, Jay Manalo, Aleck Bovick, Katherine Luna, and many more. He says even if “Manila” is an indie film, he paid them their usual talent fees, except for Angelica who returned her check.

“Sabi niya, tulong na lang daw niya sa’kin yun,” he says. “That was a big blessing for us and I’d like to thank Angelica for her generosity. Dito sa ‘Kimmy Dora’, marami ring nag-cameo role, pero hindi na sila nagpabayad, like Regine Velasquez kasi she wants to help Uge na personal friend niya. Thank you rin sa kanila.”

Sarah Geronimo mum about Gerald Anderson

July 20, 2009

SARAH Geronimo casually mentioned Gerald Anderson when asked who she’d like to be paired with next after John Lloyd Cruz. Because of that, there’s a deluge of hate mails from the fans of the Gerald-Kim Chiu loveteam denouncing her, calling her “malandi,” among other things, for allegedly wanting to destroy the Kimerald tandem.

“Ayoko na lang sagutin ‘yan,” Sarah, who’s turning 21 on July 25, said at the opening last Saturday of Unica Hija’s store at the 2nd floor of SM Fairview Annex 1 in which she’s the endorser. “Basta tinanong lang ako, sinagot ko. I didn’t know why (there was) such overreaction.”

“Huwag na lang patulan ‘yan,” said someone in Sarah’s management team. “The fans of John Lloyd’s team with Bea Alonzo also threatened then that they will boycott his movie with Sarah, but it turned out both movies they made became blockbusters. So hayaan na lang nating magsawa ‘yung mga walang magawa kundi manira. Ni wala pangang definite project for Sarah and Gerald, sobrang violent na sila.”
