SEN. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II deplored the Supreme Court ruling allowing appointive government officials to continue serving even after they have filed their certificates of candidacy.
Roxas said these officials may take advantage of their position or use government resources to bolster their candidacies.
He said the decision “smacks of the kind of politics that President Macapagal-Arroyo and her administration allies foisted on Filipinos since she took power more than eight years ago.”
“We cannot allow this to happen. Government resources should not be used to advance one’s personal ambitions,” the Liberal Party president said. Roxas intends to consult with the LP’s legal luminaries on the possibility of appealing the decision.
Roxas also slammed the Commission on Elections’ decision ousting Bulacan Gov. Joselito Mendoza and installing former Bulacan Gov. Roberto Pagdanganan.
“Gov. Mendoza has been serving the people of Bulacan for three years with no hint whatsoever of any probability of success of this case against him. Suddenly, after his Partido Del Pilar decided to align itself with LP, the Comelec decision favoring known administration ally Roberto Pagdanganan was immediately promulgated,” he added.
