Senator Loren Legarda still No. 1 in surveys

April 30, 2013

REELECTIONIST Sen. Loren Legarda (Nationalist People’s Coalition) maintained her strong lead over other senatoriables in the latest pre-election survey conducted by pollster Pulse Asia.

Legarda, who also topped the Pulse Asia survey last month, got 51.5% votes of those polled. The survey, conducted from April 20 to 22, had 1,800 respondents from a national sample.

Legarda said she is thankful to the public’s continuing trust, adding that she will work doubly hard in her next term to push more high-impact laws.

Following Legarda in second place was Chiz Escudero, who got 48.3% of the votes.

Meanwhile, neophyte candidate Grace Poe, who got 42.4%, dislodged Alan Peter Cayetano for third place. Cayetano slipped to fourth with 40% of the votes after shedding 8 percentage points from the previous Pulse Asia poll.

The other candidates in the top 12 are Cynthia Villar, 37.7%; Antonio Trillanes, 35.8%; Bam Aquino, 35.7%; JV Ejercito, 34.7%; Nancy Binay, 34.6%; Koko Pimentel, 32.7%; Edgardo Angara, 31.2% and Migz Zubiri, 29.7%.

In her previous statements, Legarda said she will work on finishing the Universal Healthcare bill which she principally authored to benefit the 25 million poorest Filipinos. “Providing for the healthcare needs of the poorest Filipinos is my top priority,” Legarda said.

She added that she will also push for the expansion of scholarship programs for indigent but deserving college students by providing scholarship to at least a member each of the more than three million families that are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the Aquino administration.

The welfare of senior citizens is also another priority. Legarda said she will ensure the full implementation of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act as well as author more environmental laws, among others.
