Ad Networks
Burst sells targeted advertising for its member Web sites on a cost-per-thousand
impression (CPM) basis.
Prospective
advertisers on the Burst Network receive a customized site list that reflects
each advertiser's target audience and editorial environment criteria. Burst all
sells non-targeted advertising available to all Burst sites.
To be eligible to
join the Burst Network, sites must receive a minimum of 5,000 page views per
month, be in English, and contain no adult material. Other restrictions also
apply.
Members have access
to the Burst AdDesktop system, which allows them to manage their inventory and
begin earning immediately upon joining. From the AdDesktop, members can choose
from a selection of non-targeted, paying ad banners, and can even upload the
banner of their choice as a Personal Campaign, unpaid banners like Public
Service Announcements or a 1x1 invisible GIF.
The average CPM for
targeted advertising on Burst sites in the first half of 1999 was $19.00 for
site-specific campaigns and $8.00 for run-of-category campaigns. The average
pricing at AdDesktop for run-of-network campaigns was $3.00 CPM and $0.35 CPC.
AdDesktop offers non-targeted, therefore, lower priced cpm and cost-per-click
(CPC) campaigns, which help fill available inventory quickly.
Burst members pay no
fees to join, and the network earns a commission or a percentage of the site's
revenue paid by the advertiser. Members determine the percentage (30-50%) based
on the type of contract chosen when they join.
BURST! pays members
with one check a month, for a minimum of $20. Members of Burst also receive
Analog and Campaign reports to keep track of traffic patterns on their site.
