The contract will take effect immediately kung kaya’t may nakahandang teleserye kaagad para kay Diet.

Dahil isa na siyang Kapuso, kasama na si Diether sa cast ng pina-kabagong teleserye na sisimulan ng Siyete, ang Pinoy version ng All About Eve. Makakasama niya rito sina Richard Gomez, Sunshine Dizon at Iza Calzado.

Walang project si Diet sa Dos pagkatapos ng Iisa Pa Lamang, kaya ito rin ang isa sa mga da-hilan kung bakit nagdesisyon na siyang lumipat ng network.

Alam ng head ng Star Magic na si Johnny Ma-nahan ang career move na ito ni Diet. In fact, si-ya pa ang kumumbinsi kay Diether na lumipat na.

As we all know, si Mr. M ang tumatayong tatay ng talents ng Star Ma-gic. Sampung taon ding naging Kapamilya si Diet. Pero ganyan talaga, each one has to move on, and seek bigger opportunities.

May ilan ngang nagtatanong kung may tampo raw ba si Diet sa Star Magic dahil obviously, hindi siya nabigyan ng mga proyektong dapat ay nasa kanya?

Well, sana ay masa-got ito ni Diet sa tamang panahon. Knowing him, marunong tumanaw ng utang naloob ang aktor at kailanman, hindi niya ookrayin ang mga taong minsan ay nag-alaga rin sa kanya.

First Gentleman Mike Arroyo Suffered a HEART ATTACK, forces Arroyo plane to land in Japan

First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo fell ill on board a Philippine Air Lines plane while he, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the rest Philippine delegation were on their way to Peru for the APEC leaders’ meeting.

Vice-President Noli de Castro told ABS-CBN News that Mr. Arroyo, 62, suffered a heart attack. But this was denied by deputy presidential spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo who said it was a “stomach problem.”

Malacañang sources said President Arroyo will still go to the APEC summit. Three doctors of the First Gentleman in the Philippines have been alerted and are scheduled to fly to Osaka, Japan to help attend to Mr. Arroyo.

The chartered Philippine Air Lines (PAL) flight carrying the President and her husband landed in Osaka at 11:05 pm, Manila time (12:05 am in Japan).

Mr. Arroyo was to be brought to Izumisano Emergency Hospital, sources in Osaka said. Just how serious his condition is was still unclear, the source in Japan said.

President Arroyo was scheduled to leave Osaka at 1:30 am (Japan time) for Los Angeles and Peru.

Mr. Arroyo’s cardiologist, Dr. Antonio Sibulo said he was told by Dr. Rommel Cariño, the First Gentleman’s surgeon, to stand by and prepare to leave for Japan. As of posting, Sibulo said Mr. Arroyo is in stable condition.

“He is clearly at risk for the next five years. The possibility of recurrence [of heart attack] is still very high,” Sibulo told ANC.

On April 9, 2007, Mr. Arroyo underwent a successful ten-hour open heart surgery after being diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. After the operation, he has been undergoing weekly therapy at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. — with a report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News

Cha-cha is Congress’ business - Palace

Malacañang yesterday made no bones about wanting Charter change (Cha-cha), but claimed that President Arroyo is against a term extension.

At the same time, the Palace claimed these changes belong in the realm of Congress, saying that the process of achieving the needed reforms is within the mandate and competence of Congress.

In a text message, Press Secretary Jesus Dureza before leaving for Peru with President Arroyo for the Asia Pacific Economic Countries (Apec) meeting said: “We leave this issue to the legislative department to handle.”

The Palace has not issued a statement denying or confirming that presidential son and Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo led the signature campaign to pass a resolution that will convene Congress into a Constituent assembly (Con-ass).

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Cha-cha efforts come from different sectors, whether from other branches of government such as Congress or other groups or individuals or local executives, saying that “these are independent efforts.”

“As far as the President is concerned, she is not having any hand in the efforts of other groups because the executive branch does not intend to be in the position of influencing the other branches of the government particular to the Constitution reforms,” Ermita said. He added nothing about the fact that the First Couple were at the home of a Leyte congressman when Cha-cha was launched.

Ermita stressed that “the President has said on many occasions that she is stepping down by the end of her term in 2010. She has not given any position on efforts for Cha-cha and this is hardly being discussed by everybody, not even by people close to her. I am close enough to the President for her to share her thoughts,

but she has not shared anything on Cha-cha,” Ermita explained.

Presidential son Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo yesterday denied a plan to extend the term of his mother following a Tribune story that more than 80 lawmakers had met at the Forbes Park residence of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez who sought pledges fro the congressmen.

Congressman Arroyo, however, admitted that he has been urging his colleagues in the House to support Cha-cha moves only to amend some economic provisions, which would be good for the country. He said that change in the form of government must be done after 2010.

“There really is a resolution, —yes, calling on Congress to convene into a Constituent assembly. I’m one of the signatories. It’s principally authored by Congressman Villafuerte… it is the same reso (lution) last term which was espoused by Speaker JdV (Jose de Venecia). We have been for Cha-cha all along,” Mikey said.

He explained that the resolution was about convening Congress into a Con-ass after 2010.

“As far as I’m concerned political change, if ever, must be done after 2010 but we might be able to implement some economic provisions now,” Arroyo said, pointing to a resolution filed by Speaker Prospero Nograles.

Arroyo said that he had made the rounds in Congress to urge lawmakers to support Charter change.

“I cannot deny the fact that I asked some of my friends because that’s how we are in Congress. We look at ourselves as a scholarly body.”

“For example I asked Raul Gonzales Jr because I know, in fact, he is an advocate of Charter change,” Arroyo said.

He also allayed apprehensions about Cha-cha, saying: “Let me remind the public that this has been going on for a long time—the proposal to only convene ourselves into a Constituent assembly. Whatever decision it is will depend on the people through a referendum,” he said.

He said the administration will try to bring the issue as a test case before the Supreme Court even as he said that “students of politics and history will benefit from this because the Supreme Court will have to rule on this issue.”

He called on critics, the presidentiables and the opposition not to “shoot down” the legislation because it is going to be good for the country.

Nograles, for his part, said that “there is no existing resolution that seeks to extend anybody’s term including the President and congressmen and senators. None whatsoever.”

Only 15 signatures more are needed for the Con-ass to move, which is the resolution authored by Kampi presidentLuis Villafuerte.

Ermita defended President Arroyo by stating, “we just have to believe in the spoken word and statement of the President. Others suspect that the President has another agenda and they kept pushing that subject matter so they will get reaction from Malacañang on what really the President intends to do during her remaining term in the office. But we will keep on reiterating that the implementation of the projects and programs of her administration will be done by the time she steps down in 2010.”

He added the usual spiel of Mrs. Arroyo being so focused on facilitating the implementation of her projects. “What is important to her are the social benefits these projects will bring to the people and the President does not engage in discussing the current politics because this might divert her attention,” Ermita said.

GMA, lackeys ‘shameless’ in pushing Con-ass

Opposition senators yesterday called Malacañang and its alleged lackeys in the House of Representatives “shameless” for pursuing the “devious scheme” to railroad the passage by Congress of amendments to the 1987 Constitution aimed at extending the stay in office of President Arroyo.

Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr., along with Senators Pia Cayetano and Francis Pangilinan, blasted the reported move to tinker with the country’s Charter, questioning this early the constitutionality of the plan.

Pangilinan warned proponents against the possibility of the move sparking anew a people uprising in the country since Cha-cha has been proven as highly unpopular to most Filipinos.

“The times are harder than ever, and with the blatant display of personal political ambitions, our people do not trust the national leadership — it shouldn’t test the patience of a deeply disappointed people. The Arroyo government shouldn’t take the people for fools willing to swallow the garbage called Cha-cha it is now dishing out,” Pangilinan said.

Camarines Rep. Luis Villafuerte yesterday confirmed the House is moving to get three-fourths of the congressmen for a Constitutent assembly (Con-ass) to get going, after which, he said the House will be bringing this issue to the high court for a ruling on the voting system, whether it is joint voting with the Senate, or separate voting.

But with the First Couple laying the cornerstone for the latest Cha-cha saga during the birthday bash of a House member in a posh Makati village, members of the House minority Friday vowed to fight at all cost the latest Cha-cha attempt being pushed by administration lawmakers which is highly suspected as another veiled move to perpetuate Mrs. Arroyo in power.

While the suspicion of using Cha-cha as a vehicle to extend the President’s term has always been associated in every attempt to amend the 1987 constitution, this belief has further been bolstered after presidential son and Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo admitted to having signed the resolution which calls for Congress to transform itself into a Con-ass and thereafter asking his lawmaker-friends to do the same.

“Action speaks louder than words,” Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Teddy Casiño said through a text message. “The latest Cha-cha move in the House, initiated by no less than the presidential son and Kampi stalwarts reveals the game plan for GMA’s continue rule via Cha-cha.”

Cibac partylist Rep. Joel Villanueva, for his part, said that as long as suspicions abound that Cha-cha will be used for Mrs. Arroyo’s term extension, the move will not be supported by the people.

Independent lawmaker, Nueva Ecija Rep. Edno Joson said that while he sees the need to amend the Charter, he believes that Constitutional Convention (Con-con) is still the best approach with the delegates elected in 2010 simultaneous with the national and local elections.

Besides Joson said this may not fly as expected. “Anti-Cha-cha proponents would only have to get 64 or 65 votes to block any amendment of the Constitution,” he stressed.

Early Friday, Rep. Matias Defensor admitted that indeed there was a party where some 80 congressmen were present in the home of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, including the First Couple, but denied that there was any talk of Cha-cha.

But witnesses reconfirmed to the Tribune yesterday that Cha-cha was the “dish of the day.”

Also yesterday, the younger Arroyo, in an interview, admitted he had signed a resolution calling on the House and the Senate to convene as a Con-ass to amend the Constitution.

“Yes, I am one of the around 150 plus congressmen who signed the resolution,” Arroyo said, but claimed that even as he asked some of his colleagues to sign up, he was not leading the signature drive.

“I also asked some of my friends, like Rep. Raul Gonzales Jr, to look into the matter. That is how we are in Congress. We are a collegial body. We try to ask our colleagues who are close to us to look at the issues. There is nothing wrong with that, we are a democracy,” he pointed out.

Arroyo pointed to Kampi president Villafuerte as the originator of the signature campaign.

Interestingly, Arroyo validated the Tribune story Friday that the House resolution would be used to challenge the Supreme court to issue a ruling on the method of voting to be employed by Congress: that is if the House and the Senate would be voting as jointly or separately.

Arroyo admitted that once the House has mustered support from three-fourths or 175 out of the 238 congressmen, they can compel the Supreme Court to decide on whether the Constitution should be amended by joint or separate Congress voting.

Earlier this year, a member of the House filed a motion before the SC to issue a ruling on the issue but his motion was dismissed for being premature.

With the House resolution expected to be rejected by the Senate, the SC has all the reasons to render a decision.

Talk of Charter Change has been circulating after a coup in the Senate last Monday saw the replacement of Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. by Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile as the Senate chief.

Amid the change in leadership in the Senate, speculations on the revival of Cha-cha efforts were further triggered after Press Secretary Jesus Dureza led a prayer insinuating the President’s leadership extending beyond 2010.

“Charter Change must be done in the right way and not before 2010 so as to ensure that it will not be used as a tool for term extension and other vested political interests. What we see now are politicians lording it over the nation, when it should be the other way around. We are merely servants to the public, and their plights should be the first of our concerns,” Pangilinan said.

Pimentel cautioned House members on being misled into supporting a Cha-cha scheme that does not conform with the rules and procedures prescribed by the Constitution.

Pimentel said the congressmen will be wasting time and effort if they blindly swallow the line that the Senate and the House can vote jointly on every and all Charter amendments, instead of separately. To do so, he argued, will not be in keeping with the bicameral nature of Congress and the intent of the framers of the l987 Constitution.

“They cannot do that because they know that it is not in accordance with the Constitution. And they will be very foolish if they will try to do it,” he said.

Unlike the scheme for initiating amendments under the House resolution, Pimentel said Joint Senate Resolution 10 on the adoption of a federal system, of which he is the principal author, clearly provides that the two chambers of Congress should vote separately on proposed amend-ments.

Pimentel said the objective of the Palace is to establish a parliamentary system, where Mrs. Arroyo can run as a member of parliament in her home province, Pampanga, and later for prime minister.

Inevitably, the constitutionality of the administration-backed Charter Change plan will be questioned before the Supreme Court. Apparently, Pimentel said they feel cocksure that the high court will rule in their favor this time, especially with the anticipated appointment of more justices in the tribunal to fill the vacancies that will be created with the impending retirement of seven associate justices next year.

Pimentel said that even if the high court is packed with appointees of Mrs. Arroyo, he does not think that the Palace’s game plan will succeed.

“It is very clear even to freshmen law students on constitutional law that this cannot be done. We have two chambers of Congress, and you cannot have one chamber doing things alone by itself,” he said.

“One chamber cannot even pass a new law creating a new barangay or the national budget bill by itself. And more so, it cannot amend the Constitution unilaterally,” he added.

“The latest Cha-cha script purports to be new, but we see the same old characters reprising their roles in their earlier attempts. House Resolution 737 supposedly concerns itself only with introducing changes to economic provisions in the Charter, but it’s not difficult to see through the political scheme behind it,” Sen. Pia Cayetano, for her part, said.

“Like its earlier versions, this new Cha-cha bid deserves to be junked by the people to history’s dustbin, and never recycled again,” she added.

Cayetano assured the public that the new minority bloc in the Senate will frustrate renewed efforts by Malacañang and their allies in Congress to revise the 1987 Constitution in another bid to extend the term of Mrs. Arroyo beyond 2010.

“The public can count on the new minority in the Senate to stand up against renewed efforts to tinker with the Charter to serve the unpatriotic and selfish agenda of a few,” said Cayetano.

“We may just be the minority in the Senate, but we share the sentiments of the overwhelming majority of our people who are opposed to any changes in the Charter before 2010,” she added.

“The timing is very suspicious, coming on the heels of the Senate leadership reorganization. I don’t want to speculate, but should a parallel move is initiated in the Senate from the majority, we in the minority will thwart it.”

Why Manny Pacquiao Will Beat De La Hoya

By John Martinez, IronBoxing.com: November 19, 2008 — December 6, the fight dubbed “The Dream Match” between the once golden Oscar De La Hoya and the now, very much in his prime Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas airing on the media outlet that Oscar built, HBO PPV.

Originally, I wasn’t interested in this match up. What others were calling a “Dream Match”, I was giving lying claim to the moniker of “glorified sparring session.”

However, after having repeated debates on this issue, I have now figured out what the entire buzz is truly about.

Oscar will lose. My recipe for Manny to be successful would require the little man to weather a vicious assault by De La Hoya early on. Oscar has a tendency to throw everything he has in the first four to five rounds. After that, he becomes flat footed and gassed.

Manny as we all know fights five minutes of every three-minute round allotted to him. He is built for the days when championship fights lasted 15-20 rounds, not twelve.

I also think that Pacquiao would be well served circling away from the daunted left arm of the “Golden” businessman. A thought that wasn’t lost on the Filipino warrior, but shared with me when I asked him what weapon of Oscar’s that HE was most concerned about.

“ I think it is the left uppercut. I should be careful of his (Oscar’s) left jab, but not just the left jab, but also the left uppercut. It is very dangerous.”

Manny’s ultimate job is to take this fight into the late waters in order to drown the part time fighter known as Oscar De La Hoya.

Before every fight, Oscar always claims that he is “in the best shape” of his life and that he has just completed “ the best training camp he’s ever had.”

And that being said, he always fades or begins to fade in the first third of a twelve round battle.

I asked the astute and former trainer of Oscar, the esteemed Freddie Roach what he makes of the older fighter’s stamina issue and he replied, “Well we are going to take him into deep water and make him work every minute of every round. Manny is very explosive and can go twelve rounds easy.”

When I pressed Roach for his views on the size and weight subject he said that Manny is currently “weighing 151(pounds) with a body fat of 6 percent.”
“Oscar will probably weigh in around 160 and Manny will come in at 150 or so. The ten pound difference isn’t going to mean much in the end.”

“You know, I’m convinced Manny can fight at 147 because he weighed in around that much when he fought Diaz and he was real strong and also, Oscar hasn’t fought at this (147) weight in years.”

Roach also told me that Manny got in great sparring work with the hard charging Amir Khan and that their sparring sessions were very heated and fierce.

“Kahn took it to Manny early on with his power and movement, but Manny would best him late in the sessions.”

Eric Brown, assistant to Freddie and Manny, said that “Manny will be too fast” for Oscar and that “he (Oscar) always has a fatal mistake of fighting small.”

I believe this is the key to victory for Pacquiao. Make the old man work for his hand to be raised by fighting Oscar with swift feet, head movement, staying off the ropes and eventually, making Oscar lean forward and fight small rather than tall.

My prediction is Manny will win on points or quite possibly a late stoppage around the 8-10 round via a wicked body attack to the part time, once golden Oscar De La Hoya.

Finally ay may launching movie na sina Jose Manalo at Wally Bayola, ang Scaregivers na ipapalabas na sa Nov. 26.

Mga holdaper sila dito na nagpanggap na mga sira-ulo para hindi sila maikulong pero itinapon naman sila sa isang mental hospital kung saan may multong pumapatay ng mga pasyente.

Sila na raw ang bagong Dolphy at Panchito o bagong Michael V at Ogie Alcasid.

Aba, sina Iza Calzado at Ehra Madrigal lang naman ang leading ladies nila dito.

At nag-guest din dito sina Marian Rivera at Bossing Vic Sotto.

Kasama rin si Paolo Contis bilang multo.

Lately ay nalagay sa headline si Jose dahil sa pagrereklamo diumano ng kanyang asawa dahil sa kawalan niya ng sustento sa pamilya niya.

Pinabulaanan ni Jose ang balitang ito.

“Walang katotoha-nan ‘yan. Tuluy-tuloy ang sustento ko sa dalawa kong anak na babae na 11 at 12 years old at ako rin ang nagpapaaral sa kanila. Tuwing birthday nila at Pasko ay pinagsa-shopping ko sila. At dinadala sila sa akin para ma-kasama ko sila once a week. Ang nanay lang naman nila ang hindi ko makasundo.

“Gusto ko ring iklaro na second wife ko ‘yung nagrereklamo at ‘yung first wife ko ang kasama ko ngayon. Eight years na kaming hiwalay ng second wife ko. Nagkita at nagkabalikan naman kami ulit ng first wife ko kung saan lima ang anak ko at ang panganay kong lalaki ay 23 years old.

“Kaya nga kayod marino ako para may pantustos ako sa mga pamilya ko. Buti na lang at napakabait ng first wife ko at ininvest pa niya ang pera ko sa iba’t ibang negosyo tulad ng Chicken Inasal resto, school sa Cainta at resort sa Antipolo at V. Luna. Kung masama si-guro akong tao, eh, hindi ako ibe-bless ni Lord nang ganito,” pahayag ni Jose.

Pero mukhang nadehado yata siya sa billing niya sa movie kasi in fairness, pantay-pantay na man ang roles nilang tatlo pero mas binigyan ng importansiya sa billing ang loveteam nina Dingdong at Marian.

“Pangit din pala ang masyado kang mabait minsan. Kasi sa totoo lang, wala talaga akong pakialam sa billing. Mas priority ko ang galing ng pag-arte ko sa pelikula. Pero dapat pala ay alagaan ko na rin ang pangalan ko sa billing dahil sa estado ng career ko ng ngayon. Kasi it reflects kung ano na ba ang narating mong estado sa showbiz. Buti na lang maganda ang picture ko sa poster namin,”pahayag ni Iza.

Hindi naman namin alam kung bakit hindi siya ipinaglaban ng GMA Artist Center sa aspetong ito lalo nang ang GMA Films mismo ang nag-produced ng One True Love.

Dapat lang ay pinorotektahan din siya ng GMA kasi exclusive contract star din siya ng network tulad nina Dong at Marian.

Sa usapang hiwalayan blues nina Dingdong at Karylle, ngayong inamin na mismo ng dalawa ang tungkol dito, puwede na ba niyang ipahayag ang totoong saloobin niya tungkol sa bagay na ito?

“Maybe that is really meant to happen. Although nakakalungkot nga ang nangyari. Wala akong kinakampihan kina Dingdong at Karylle. Pareho ko silang ka-close noon pa. Kaya I really cannot say anything.

“But I cannot say the same with Marian. Hindi naman kami magkabar-kada. We’re just collea-gues. Magkasama lang kami dito sa One True Love at Desperadas 1 & 2. Kaya I really cannot sympathized with her!” ani Iza.

Karylle hindi na apektado kahit visible sina Dingdong, Marian Rivera

Hindi pa nakakapirma umano ng kontrata si Karylle sa ABS-CBN pero anytime soon ay magiging certified Kapamilya na ang singer/ stage actress.

Ito rin ay ibinalita ni Gary Valenciano nu’ng mag-guest si Kaye sa concert ng Total Performer nu’ng Sabado sa Big Dome.

Isa si Karylle sa mga nag-perform with Gary at kinanta nila ang Muli, (originally performed by Zsa Zsa Padilla and Gary V.) at ang galing ng rendition nila, in fairness.

Napanood din namin ang panayam kay Karylle ng The Buzz kung saan kinumusta siya after the much talked about break-up with Dingdong Dantes.

Aminado ang dalaga, hindi raw ito ganoon kadali but she is getting better each day.

May proseso siyang pinagdaraanan at muk-hang maayos namang nagagawa ni Karylle ang mga bagay sa buhay niya.

In fact, while she was singing with Gary on stage, hindi mo iisiping she’s going through a lot.

Propesyunal ang da-laga at hindi siya muk-hang ngarag because of the break-up.

Sa gitna ng rollercoaster of emotions na pinagdaraanan ni Karylle, ito naman ang height ng promo ng pelikula nina Dingdong at Marian Ri-vera.

Hindi talaga maiwa-sang maging visible sila these days.

Sa panayam pa rin kay Karylle, sinabi nitong hindi pa raw niya nakikitang magkasama sina Dingdong at Marian.

Naniniwala ba siyang may namamagitan kina Dingdong at Marian?

No comment ang isinagot ng dalaga sa pa-nayam sa kanya.

Sa totoo lang, bilib kami sa sense of acceptance ni Karylle.

Hindi madali ang pinagdaraanan nila ni Dingdong lalo pa’t may nai-pundar na sila at may mga magagandang alaala.

Gusto namin ang sinabi ni Karylle na gustuhin man nila, hindi na nila hawak ang mga pangyayari.
