PBA: Realtors win, snap skid
May 4, 2008
BY NOLI CORTEZ: STA. Lucia Realty made an early statement and repeated it for most of last night.
The result was probably a league record and a cruising 111-97 victory over hapless Welcoat in the Smart PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
The sterling one-on-one defense on the Dragons’ imports paid handsome dividends for the Realtors, enabling them to sustain for the most part their strong start and pull off the win that cut short a two-game losing streak.
“(Coree) Santee usually penetrates and creates opportunities for his teammates and so their (Welcoat’s) plays usually emanate from him so I told (Dennis) Miranda to concentrate on him,” said SLR coach Boyet Fernandez.
“Si ‘Cap” (Dennis Espino) naman ang nag-take charge kay (Marquis) Gainous and they really did a terrific job defending those guys.”

With the All-Star week over, Red Bull and Coca-Cola figure in a tussle to determine which team is hottest in the Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference tonight at the Araneta Coliseum.
But while they are at it, other teams wallowing down the leaderboard continue their hunt for a better standing, if not for better imports to make them realize it.
Before the All-Star Week in Bacolod City, the Bulls and Tigers alternated in scoring big victories and have somehow managed to keep their good showing in the season-ending tournament to become everyone’s envy.
Now, they score to settle, each wanting to determine which really is the hottest team in the league when they clash at 7:20 p.m., and with the solo leadership at stake.

PBA: Coca-Cola nips Giants, gains share of lead with Red Bull

Jason Dixon struck for the big play in crunch time as Coca-Cola slipped past Purefoods, 109-108, for its second straight win in the 2008 Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Olivare Sports Center last night.
Dixon scored the game-winning basket as he helped the Tigers put away the Giants and wrap up a tightly-fought contest for what could be a fitting follow-up for their 87-79 conquest of Talk ‘N Text in Panabo City last March 29.
With the game on the line and the Tigers trailing by a point, 107-108, the 6-foot-10 Dixon came to his team’s rescue, effectively beating a highly-touted Darius Rice in a rebound battle following a missed Alex Cabagnot jumper from top of the key.
