Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 Finals this Saturday

September 10, 2008

THE grand finals of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 will be held this Saturday and Sunday nights at the Cuneta Astrodome. Big name guest stars headed by Judy Ann Santos and Derek Ramsay, stars of the forthcoming series, “Humingi AKo Sa Langit,” will be gracing the occasion.

The Grand Big Night on September 13, Saturday, will see the Top 6 Scholars do their best in their Final Performance night, then the awarding for the top winners will be held the next day, Sunday.

Last Saturday, the Dream BIGayan Concert for a Cause where the remaining 6 scholars did a fundraising show for their chosen charities was such a big success. They sang songs they personally chose, with Laarni doing her own version of the classic Eartha Kitt song “Waray-Waray,” Cris doing the Pussycat Dolls’ “Sway,” Bugoy doing Guy Sebastian’s “All I Need is You,” Liezel doing Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” Miguel doing Robbie William’s “Rock DJ,” and the heartthrob Van making the girls swoon with his rendition of the 98 Degrees’ “True to Your Heart.”

I think Bugoy will win Pinoy Dream Academy 2

July 17, 2008

“SHENG: I THINK BUGOY WILL WIN IN PDA2″

TO date, four scholars have left Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2: Michelle “Sheng” Belmonte and Chivas Malunda, and the two quitters, Ross Dio and Jet Singh. Kathy Solis, who handles the publicity of the show, presented Sheng and Chivas to the press last Monday night. Ross and Jet were missing.

“It was decided not to invite them anymore since they volunteered to leave the academy,” Kathy explains. “Pinag-aaralan pa ngayon what to do with them.”

We’re sure that when the quitters left, they didn’t foresee the possibility that their decision to leave will have a bad reflection on them. “Sayang dahil, sana nga, ibinigay na lang yung slots nila sa ibang contestants na mas seryoso in being a scholar,” says one writer.

Sheng is a dark morena beauty who looks so much better in person. We told her we voted to save her and we felt sad when it was Jet who was saved as it turned out he’d choose to leave the next day. How does she feel about this?

“Of course, I felt very sad when I left the academy as I loved being in it. But as they say, everything happens for a reason, so happy na rin ako as I know I had a good exit. Now, I’m back to my rackets, like hosting sa Metro Bar, Punchline and Laff Line. I also want to thank ABS for allowing me to go back to my former work as singer-stand up comic even if I’m still under contract with them for two years. Thankful din ako kasi right after I left, ang dami kong naging guestings, like I’m in ‘The Singing Bee’ this week for four days. I learned so much from PDA, lalo na tungkol sa vocal techniques, kasi I never studied music or voice naman formally. Natuto rin akong makisama sa iba’t ibang klase ng tao.”

So what’s her plan now? “I also want to try acting. Kasi even before, nag-e-extra na ako sa TV as passerby. Sana mabigyan ako ng regular exposure.”

Who does she think will win and who does she want to win? “I think Bugoy (of Bicol) will win kasi ang taas ng musicality niya. He’s also my personal choice.”

STAND UP comic Michelle or Sheng expelled from PDA

July 7, 2008

STAND UP comic Michelle or Sheng, 25, was expelled from Pinoy Dream Academy Saturday night. Many were surprised as they thought it’s the antipatiko Jet who’d get the ax. But it was a close fight between them as Jet got 51.07% while Sheng got 48.93% of the text votes.

Jet himself thought he’s leaving, so he had already packed his bags earlier, ready to go. Later, he cried saying he really misses his family so much and he’s worried for them since he’s the breadwinner. “Baka wala na silang makain ngayon,” he wails. In which case, why did he join the contest at all if he failed to provide enough provisions for them?

Sheng, who did a good rendition of “Lean on Me” on performance night, says she was able to accept her being ousted easily.

Billy Crawford as a ‘demon’ his unforgettable role in Hollywood

June 21, 2008

International Fil-Am performer Billy Crawford still remembers the very first Hollywood picture he starred in–and why shouldn’t he? It was 2005’s “Dominion — Prequel to the Exorcist”.

His role in the film wasn’t just a bit part: he played a dual role as the crippled boy Cheche, and later, the demon-possessed Cheche who battles the lead character, the disillusioned priest Father Lankester Merrin

“Hindi naman ako masyadong bata noong ginawa ko ‘yung movie. I played the character of Cheche a thin helpless boy, tapos limp ako dito na na-possess.

“A priest took care of me but ‘yun nga I was possessed talagang I transformed into evil,” Crawford said.

Pinoy Idol vs. Pinoy Dream Academy

June 17, 2008

Billy Crawford should patch things up with Kuya Germs

June 4, 2008

SOMEONE says Kuya Germs does not buy Billy Crawford’s reason for moving to ABS-CBN, that he’s just following the decision of his management company.

“He’s not a little boy who has no will of his own,” says our source. “He could have told them that he has already committed to do a show with GMA-7. Nangako siya sa Movers, the dancers who won in his dance show with GMA, that he’ll come back to be in the new show with them. But as it is, he just made them wait for nothing.

“Hindi naman sa nanunumbat si Kuya Germs, but he really treated Billy like his own son. Whenever he’s here in Manila, he stays in a condo owned by Kuya Germs who sends him all his meals every day from his house.

IT will be a tougher journey, wika nga, for the new set of scholars na mapapasali sa second season  ng Pinoy Dream Academy.

For one, they’ll really be treated like scholars, kaya, malaki ang expectations sa kanila ng kanilang mga mentor, na talagang maituturing na mentors in the true sense of the word.

This set of mentors include Joey Reyes, well-known movie and tv director-cum-scriptwriter; Kitchie Molina, UP College of Music Voice and Music Theater chairman; and Monet Silvestre, musician extraordinaire.

Headmaster is Ryan Cayabyab, whose name is one to reckon with in the entertainment industry.
